Meet Jasmine Holmes: Team GB Event Rider Living the Dream

We’re excited to introduce Jasmine Holmes, a talented young event rider competing for Team GB, and someone who just happens to love wearing our products (which makes us very big fans!)

From a late start in the saddle to representing Great Britain on the international stage, Jasmine’s story is proof that passion, grit, and a little tunnel vision can take you a very long way.

From First Ride to Full Obsession

Jasmine’s eventing journey began later than most. She didn’t grow up around horses, and riding wasn’t part of family life.

“I only first rode a horse when I was 13,” she explains. “I was 15 when I got into eventing, and I didn’t come from a horsey family at all.”

So what sparked it? Inspiration, and a very clear vision.

“The daughter of the livery yard owner had these beautiful event horses, and quite simply, I just wanted to be her. From then on, I had tunnel vision. Being a professional event rider was my only career ambition.”

These days, Jasmine is living and breathing the sport she fell in love with. “I think it’s an incredible thing to be part of,” she says.

Abby: The Horse That Changed Everything

Ask Jasmine about her favourite horse, and the answer comes instantly.

“Abby. It’ll always be Abby.”

Bought from the Monart Sale in 2018, Abby was Jasmine’s first young horse, a small but mighty mare by I’m Special De Muse out of a Clover Hill mare. Together, they grew up through the ranks, competing in age classes and championships from four years old all the way to Blenheim as both an eight and nine year old.

“She was and is just the best ever,” Jasmine says. “Her professional brain was second to none.”

Their biggest moment came last year when they were selected to represent Great Britain at the European 3* Cup Championship in Belgium.

“We won team gold and individual silver,” Jasmine says. “Something I thought only dreams were made of.”

Although Abby has since been sold to another exciting rider, her legacy lives on. “It was truly an honour to own her for seven years. She’ll always be number one.”

A Day in the Life of an Event Rider

Life at home starts early.

“We’re usually up around 6:30. Cup of tea first. I don’t like coffee, sadly!”

Jasmine and her fiancé, Francois, run their business together, specialising in young horses and behavioural cases. Mornings begin with yard checks, broodmares, young stock, and stabled horses, before the real work begins.

“We often start with breakers or horses needing round pen work, usually five or six of them,” she says. “Then we move on to the eventers.”

Afternoons are rarely quiet. “We’re often loading up to go training, lessons, gallops, arena hires. We have more horses than we know what to do with, so we’re always riding or working something!”

Busy? Absolutely. But Jasmine wouldn’t have it any other way.

Competition Day Fuel (Or Lack of It)

When it comes to nutrition, Jasmine is refreshingly honest.

“I’m definitely not a role model here!” she laughs. “I used to not eat anything, which is a big mistake.”

These days, she keeps it simple: yoghurt, fruit, plenty of tea, and lemon squash throughout the day.

“And I always finish with a big bowl of cheesy chips,” she adds. “Essential!”

Looking Ahead to the Season

This season is shaping up to be an exciting one.

“I’ve got a lovely string of four year olds for the young horse classes, which I’m really excited about. I love working with the youngsters.”

Alongside them, Jasmine has older horses ready to compete, with plans to head abroad more and big goals with her horse Bono.

“We’re aiming to qualify for and compete at five star this season, if everything goes to plan.”

But above all else, it’s the thrill of the sport that keeps her going.

“I’m mostly looking forward to the adrenaline of riding cross country, week in, week out, for seven months straight.”

And honestly? We can’t wait to follow along!
